Why did you pick this particular field of study? Why were you drawn to this field?
I think that this field of study will help me to obtain my ideal job working as a naturalist for the National Park Service. I have for a long time wanted to work outdoors as this is helping me to prepare.

What do you like best so far about your program?
I love the field courses, getting out and doing some real work has helped me to understand our role in the larger scheme of things!

Describe your research interests and experiences at SNRE.
I am currently working on a thesis in which I look at genetic variation of milkweed and how that variation affects defensive compounds within the plants.

What will you do after graduation?
I hope to move out West and obtain a job with the National Park Service working on conservation of genetic resources and maybe even some restoration work, a job where I can be outdoors in the mountains would be ideal!

What advice do you have for incoming SNRE students?
If you work hard, you will be rewarded. And don't get discouraged by the course load. It can be a lot at times but it will all be worth it in the end.

What is your favorite environmental-oriented web site and why?
I like to look at the National Interagency Fire Center web site. It gives descriptions of all the fires burning in the western United States. It also gives information about whether or not they are controlled burns. It is interesting to follow the progress of the wild land fires.

How do you relax when not studying?
In my spare time, I love to work for the Challenge Program of the University. I lead high-ropes activities as well as lead rock-climbing activities. I also enjoy riding my bike around town and visiting the lakes in the area and going for a swim.
